About graphic recording

Graphic recording is a hand-drawn process of visually capturing content, in real time, using a combination of words, shapes, symbols and imagery. Graphic recording describes both a process – the act of live illustration of content, and a product – the artefact created during the session.

A professional graphic recorder is objective and embodies a diverse combination of skills including finely tuned listening, synthesis and critical thinking skills, visual thinking, visual communication, drawing, typography and layout design.

Graphic recorders usually work in partnership with a front-of-room facilitator, allowing them to focus solely on the role of capturing information. It is commonly used in workshops, conferences and presentations as a tool for audience engagement, enhanced comprehension, memory retention, and emotional connection to content.

We graphic record on a digital device – an iPad Pro. After your event, this digitally created image can be printed as large as you need. These clever illustrations are usually shared via social media, but they can also be incorporated into your documents and future presentations.

If you think of a way to use it, we can probably do it.

Here are just 10 benefits of graphic recording – to get you started:

  1. Visuals are processed faster than a lot of words (zzzzz)
  2. Improves recall of content by using both sides of your brain: verbal and visual
  3. Retention of information improves: 65% of the population are visual learners
  4. Quicker, simpler and clearer communication
  5. Stimulates emotional connections
  6. Stimulates creative thinking
  7. Validates participants input
  8. Creates clarity from complexity
  9. Creates interest that drives motivation
  10. Distils complex information and connections.
