Greg Gough is the founder and Managing Director of Ideas Advisory. He is a senior investment governance specialist with almost 20 years helping governments secure funding for high-value, high-risk investments, turning complex portfolios into Cabinet-ready business cases that get approved.

A co-author of the standard

Greg's specialist territory is the intersection of the Victorian Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF) Investment Management Standard (IMS), the High Value High Risk (HVHR) guidelines, and the Gateway Review process. He co-authored every edition of the IMS, from version 1 to version 6, helped create the DTF 16-Question Tool, helped shape the HVHR guidelines, and helped design Gateway Reviews 1, 2 and 6.

Background

Greg founded Ideas Advisory in 2017. Before that, from 2007 to 2018, he held senior advisory roles in the Department of Treasury and Finance and the Department of Premier and Cabinet, reviewing major Cabinet submissions and embedding investment governance across the Victorian Government. From 2013 to 2016, as Manager of DataVic Access Policy at DTF, he negotiated the public release of more than 6,000 machine-readable datasets through data.vic.gov.au.
